"Guardians of the Galaxy" passes $700 million globally

Another day, another milestone for "Guardians of the Galaxy"! The Marvel Studios smash passed the $700 million mark in worldwide box-office yesterday, becoming only the seventh film this year to do so. It now has $705 million in global box-office.

The film, directed by James Gunn and released on August 1, helped put a cap on the summer blockbuster season of 2014 and went on to become the highest-grossing August film release in history. It was also the first film of 2014 to cross the $300 million mark. "Guardians" is the latest in a string of hits for the studio, which also debuted "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" earlier this year -- another of the four Marvel films to reach the $700 million mark worldwide. A sequel has already been announced with James Gunn reprising his role as director.
