‘I didn’t expect Tony Award nomination’: Bradley Cooper

Bradley Cooper has said that he was not expecting his Tony Award nomination for his performance in The Elephant Man. The 40-year-old actor has been shortlisted for one of the most prestigious awards in theatre. "Very surprised. It's a nice boost of confidence", he said.

“The nature of the character and what the actor has to do, yeah, I would be lying if I said my body didn't take a bit of a beating", he added. Cooper also said that he is excited to bring The Elephant Man to London, from May 18 to August 8. "I can't believe I'm about to do it again", he said.

The Elephant Man is a play by Bernard Pomerance. The story focuses on the life of Joseph Merrick. Merrick lived in the Victorian Era and was known for the extreme deformity of the body. The noteworthy thing about the play is that no prosthetic make-up is used on the actor portraying Merrick. The actor portrays Merrick’s deformity through his own physicality.
