Walt Disney Pictures is developing a modern day Oliver Twist musical with director Thomas Kail. The director is known for his work in Hamilton. The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Ice Cube has been roped in for the Oliver Twist reboot to play Fagin.

Oliver Twist was Charles Dickens’ second novel and focused on a young orphan. Fagin is a criminal who leads a group of child pickpockets in London. The story shows how Oliver joins this group of child criminals. This cinematic adaptation won’t be the first as the novel has been brought to the big screen by various directors over the decades.

Ice Cube was last seen in ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ which was directed by Malcolm D. Lee. He was also seen in ‘Ride Along 2’ alongside Kevin Hart. Cube will next be seen in ‘Fist Fight’ where he shares screen space with Charlie Day. The movie will be released on February 17.
