Idris Elba: I Don’t Respect Fear

Known from movies like Pacific Rim, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and the TV show Luther, actor Idris Elba opens up about his mindset and his struggle with fear. Idris stated that he feels worried when he thinks he might fail but focuses his mind on overpowering that feeling. The 43-year-old feels he has become more responsible after playing lead roles.

According to Female First, Idris said, “Fear is an interesting one for me. I think it's definitely part of what goes on inside my head. I battle it. I don't respect fear. I don't mean that in an arrogant way, but I am self-aware, and that's how I deal with it”.

He added, “With growth comes a lot of responsibility. I think one of the tougher things when you go from being a supporting actor to a leading actor is that your process is slightly different. You find yourself on your own quite a bit, and when you're used to an ensemble, that can be a little unsettling. But you're given a lot more freedom to create in that space, and that's a gift for any actor. That freedom is why I love what I do”.
