Italian actress Isabella Rossellini has starred in American flicks such as David Lynch’s mystery film ‘Blue Velvet’ (1986) and Robert Zemeckis’s black comedy fantasy ‘Death Becomes Her’ (1992). The actress believes that being complimented as beautiful is condescending at her age. The 64-year-old star doesn't have a problem on being critiqued on her style.

"When people tell me, 'You look so glamorous, you look sophisticated or elegant,' it's wonderful. But when people say, 'You're beautiful,' I find it a little condescending”, stated Isabella, adding, “Worse now, because they say, 'You're still beautiful’”.

"In Italian, we say it's a knife with both edges, because I know that they mean it to please me, but it's almost like saying to a black woman, 'You're not so dark, you don't look so black.' I am old: this is what 65 looks like”, said the ‘Joy’ actress.

Isabella, whose mother was also a famous actress, once stated that she had no intentions of walking on the paths taken by her mother and working in films. She went on to become the highest-paid model in the world after a contract with Lancôme cosmetics.
