Known for the series ‘Lost’ and ‘The Sopranos’, Jack Bender is one of the five new directors for the next season of the hit show Game of Thrones. The show follows George R.R. Martin’s novel series ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’. Bender will be directing episode 5 and 6 of the 10 episode season.

“This is how I look at it. As a director on ‘Lost,’ for example, I liked to say we get recipes from (‘Lost’ showrunners) Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. Then, me and the writers and the rest of the team, we’d cook the meal. That’s always how I saw the metaphor” said Bender. He added, “Dan Weiss and David Benioff are enormously brilliant and unpretentious guys, and I know they communicate closely”, ‘they’ being the Game of Thrones showrunners and George R.R. Martin.

The sixth season will be the first to have no back bone as the sixth book in Martin’s series has not yet been written. This scenario creates interesting possibilities for the outcome of the show. Jack Bender is an experienced director. He shared with BGR, “When I’m really old, maybe one day I’ll sit there and start going through the scrapbook and think about how this or that show got put together,” he says. “Right now, every day you just get up and do the best you can. It’s like building a pyramid, one block at a time”.
