No Country for Old Men star Javier Bardem is in talks to star in Universal’s upcoming revival of Frankenstein.  Bardem was reportedly initially approached for the Jekyll role that was eventually filled by Russell Crowe. However, this is still undercover whether Bardem would be playing Victor Frankenstein or Frankenstein’s monster.

The 47-year-old actor is best known for his iconic role as the sociopathic Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men, for which he won the Oscar, as well as his roles in Biutiful, Before Night Falls, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and, of course, Skyfall. Aside from playing a Bond villain, this would be his first proper foray into nerd culture, and it sounds like an amazing casting choice

The first film in the series, The Mummy, is currently shooting with Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella in the title role. Russell Crowe will also join the movie universe as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Johnny Depp will also be unseen as The Invisible Man. The Mummy, meanwhile, is set for release on June 9th, 2017.
