Actress Jessica Chastain has said that she is perturbed by portrayal of women in global cinema. She spoke her mind at the recently concluding Cannes Film Festival, where she served as jury on the panel. The 40-year-old further said that though they are exceptions but she is largely upset the way women are represented in films even today.

"This is the first time I watched 20 films in 10 days, and what I really took away from this experience is how the world views women. It was quite disturbing to me, to be honest. There were quite some exceptions. I was surprised by the representation of female characters on film," said Jessica.

The Miss Sloane actress said that today’s women are not at the beck and call of men. There are many who have their own point of view. She said that the industry needs to have storytellers that do not show women as powerless but show them as strong and independent.
