In an official statement to the media earlier, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, who is overseeing the production of the Star Wars movies, said, “With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy.” Apart from directing, Abrams will also co-write the movie along with Chris Terrio. Well, JJ Abrams was never the first choice to direct the movie.
Lucasfilm earlier approached Colin Trevorrow, who had directed 2015’s biggest hit Jurassic World, to helm the flick. However, Colin walked out of the project after he parted ways with LucasFilm and Disney. Rumours were doing rounds that the studios were not satisfied with his last movie, The Book of Henry. Not only this, there were other rumours that the studios were founding it difficult to work with the director.
