    Joan Fontaine, Academy Award achiever, dies at 96

    Heart breaking news has arrived this morning that British American actress Joan Fontaine, Academy Award achiever died yesterday. Fontaine, 96, died in sleep at her home in Carmel as conveyed by her long-time friend Noel Beutel. The reason of her death is said to be natural causes.

    Born as Joan de Beauvoir de Havilland in Tokyo, she was ill throughout her childhood. Fontaine started her career on the stage in 1935 and in the same year signed a film titled No More Ladies where she portrayed Caroline 'Carrie' Rumsey. Afterwards, she became an idol and topped the list of producers and directors. For Rebecca, Joan was nominated for Oscar but her first Academy award was for Suspicion and the same movie won her New York Film Critics Circle award for Best Actress. She worked till 1966 in Hollywood and her last movie is marked as The Witches.

    Her filmography is quite long but to name a few, she performed in Man of Conquest, The Women, Jane Eyre, September Affair, Serenade. Joan also contributed in radio, television and films. The actress also released her autobiography in 1978 No Bed of Roses. She is survived byan elder sister Olivia de Havilland, three husbands and 2 children. She parted with her first husband Brian Aherne in 1945. She married three more men William Dozier, Collier Young and Alfred Wright Jr.
