Johnny Depp becomes member of Native American TribeHollywood superstar Johnny Depp, who is essaying the role of a Native Americantribal man in his upcoming film The Lone Ranger, has been invited by the Comanche tribe to becomean official member of the community. Johnny is reprising the historic role of Tonto, and it seemed likea natural fit to officially welcome him into our Comanche family, Americans for Indian Opportunitypresident LaDonna Harris said. 'I reached out, and Johnny was very receptive to the idea. He seemedproud to receive the invitation, and we were honored that he so enthusiastically agreed, Harris added.The Pirates of the Caribbean actor informed that he has Native American ancestry from his great-grandmother, who was a Cherokee Indian. The star attended the ceremony at LaDonna's home inAlbuquerque, New Mexico, where shooting of The Lone Ranger is going on. He also brought presents forthe tribal leaders.
