A significant recruitment has been made by prominent filmmaker James Cameron for his sequel project to his highly successful Avatar. Josh Friedman, the creator behind Fox's cult hit series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, will be working on the screenplay for the much-anticipated Avatar 2. The reports have been confirmed to The Wrap by a source close to the 20th Century Fox project.

When Friedman was contacted for his comments on his new role he wasn’t ready instantly to respond and later Cameron's production company Lightstorm Entertainment was referred to by a representative from his agency, UTA. But Lightstorm's COO and Avatar producer Jon Landau also refused to comment on the project, "I would not comment on 'Avatar 2' one way or the other way." Neither any statement has been released by Fox on the same.

Friedman enjoys a long-lasting professional relationship with Fox as he created its Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and also scripted a Locke & Key show for the Fox network. He was also a producer for Fox's series The Finder, which didn’t continue for too long. After Cameron entrusted Friedman with creating popular characters like Sarah and John Connor, it’s quite a logical selection on the part of the filmmaker to choose the same guy for Avatar 2. After the huge success of Avatar, undoubtedly Avatar 2 is one of the most highly-speculated sequels of all time. It’s expected that Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will be back in the sequel which is slated for a 2015 release. Friedman is known for several big-budget blockbusters’ screenplay like Steven Spielberg's 2005 remake of War of the Worlds and Brian De Palma's serial killer thriller The Black Dahlia.
