Judd Apatow Recalls First Meeting With Jim Carrey, At Just For Laughs Festival

The Just For Laughs festival was recently held in Montreal where director Judd Apatow presented comedian-actor Jim Carrey with the Generation Award. Recalling their first meeting, Judd praised Jim for his comedic prowess and shared fond memories of the time he was just starting out. Judd revealed that he worked for Carrey, co-writing comedy sketches.

The director recalled the time during the late 1980s and 1990s and spoke about his first meeting with the Canadian-born comic. “He (Jim Carrey) would go on stage every night and improvise his entire set. His goal was not to repeat one line from any other night. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life”, Judd shared. While receiving the award, Carrey also recalled his response to Judd's introduction which was, “F*** off narc!”

After some pleading, Carrey accepted Judd's offer to write for him. He jokingly added, “So I said, okay. And I made him do heroin with me. I'm not into drugs, but I had to make sure I knew who I was dealing with”.

The actor was last seen in the 2016 film ‘True Crimes’ which was a crime-drama directed by Alexandros Avranas.
