The Big Bang Theory is based on the lives of four socially awkward physicists and has been successfully running for nine seasons. The physicists include Johnny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter, Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper, Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz and Kunal Nayyar as Raj Koothrappali. The show has introduced Leonard’s strict mom, played by Christine Baranski, and now, we will get to see his father played by Judd Hirsch.

Judd is known from his roles in the TV show Taxi and the movie Independence Day. According to EW, Chuck Lorre, executive producer of the show stated, “We talked about Leonard’s father being a very different kind of character than his mother. When you look at Leonard and his mother, and how different Leonard is, well the other piece of the equation is his dad, so you can imagine the space that character has to occupy and who he’d have to be to get a Leonard out of the equation”.

Johnny also spoke about Judd and said, “I met this fellow a month or two ago and he’s a hero of mine and I knew that he was a hero of Chuck and Bill’s, so I just accosted him and cornered him and practically made him commit on the spot to play my father”. Judd will be seen later in the season. The series has been running since 2007.
