Titanic actress Kate Winslet was present at a We Day U.K. charity event in London where she spoke to children about overcoming childhood bullying. The actress shared some memories from her past, when she was a kid, and revealed that she was bullied at school. Kate shared that her classmates used to tease her for wanting to act.

“I had been bullied at school. They called me Blubber. Teased me for wanting to act. Locked me in the cupboard. Laughed at me”, the actress shared. She went on to say, “I wasn’t the prettiest. I was even told that I might be lucky in my acting if I was happy to settle for the fat-girl parts. [Casting agents] would say, ‘You're just not what we’re looking for Kate.’ I’d hear that a lot”. The point of her speech at the S.S.E. Arena was to promote courage in kids who are being bullied at school. Her motive was that if she could overcome her circumstances, so can this generation of school going children.

Kate further added that she fought back and never gave up on her dreams. She ignored the negative comments and rose above the hate. “You can be from anywhere and you can do anything, believe it. It is possible to overcome your fears”, Kate shared, talking about landing the role in Titanic, one of the biggest movies ever made.

The Collateral Beauty actress has spoken about her childhood troubles a couple of times in the past as well. She is a strong believer that no matter who you are or where you are from, you have the ability to achieve your dreams.
