    Ken Watanabe Roped In For Pokemon Movie 'Detective Pikachu'

    Actor Ken Watanabe has been approached to star in the new Pokemon movie, 'Detective Pikachu'. He joins Ryan Reynolds, who will provide the voice of the monster detective. The live-action movie also features Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton .



    The story of the film will revolve around Smith’s character’s father getting kidnapped. He then teams up with Pikachu, played by Reynolds, to help him find his father. Kathryn Newton will play the role of a journalist, who helps them in their mission. Ken will play the role of Detective Yoshida.



    Rob Letterman, who directed Goosebumps, is helming the project. Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch have penned the script for the flick. The movie will be produced by Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, while Legendary’s Alexandra Mendes will co-produce. The film will go on floors this month in January. Watanabe is known for working in Godzilla. He will also be seen in the film’s sequel Godzilla: King of Monsters. He was also nominated for Oscars for working in Tom Cruise starrer drama The Last Samurai.
