Kumail Nanjiani, who is known for his role of Dinesh Chugtai in Silicon Valley, has been approached to star in the upcoming TV adaptation of My Beautiful Laundrette. Apart from acting, Kumail will also write the script for the project. Alec Berg, Hanif Kureishi and Stephen Gaghan will serve as the executive producers for the show.

The show is based on the Oscar-nominated 1985 indie film starring Daniel Day-Lewis. The story of the show will centre on a young British man of Pakistani origin and his white boyfriend, who is a former gang leader. They decide to run a London laundromat owned by the British-Pakistani man’s uncle.

The film was appreciated for the way it portrayed gay and immigrant communities. However, it is not clear what role will Kumail play in the show. Nanjiani is currently basking in the success of his autobiographical film The Big Sick which he co-wrote with his wife Emily V. Gordon. Along with writing, he also starred in the flick.
