According to Kung Fu Panda 3 filmmaker, Jennifer Yuh Nelson, the next villain in the franchise will be bigger and even scarier with supernatural powers. Nelson has co-directed the film with Alessandro Carloni. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Nelson revealed that Kai (voiced by JK Simmons), a bull, is the new villain.

He further added that, "I drew a little chart that had a picture of Tai Lung next to Po, a picture of Shen next to Po, and a picture of this new villain coming in. And it was like 'You can't go brawler because Tai Lung was brawler. You can't go smarter because Shen was smarter. Where can you go? You have to go supernatural, bigger, and even more intimidating".

The new villain stands apart from his predecessors. It will get even more interesting for the audience when the dynamic of new villain, new energy, and new abilities will challenge Po. However, JK has brought humour so that the really intimidating bad guy does not scare kids. The movie is scheduled to be released in the beginning of the next year.
