If the original plan for Marvel’s Doctor Strange was followed, the movie would have hit the screens by now. But, because of lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch, the studio had to push back their plans. Looks like Marvel was quite desperate to rope in the Sherlock actor.

In a new interview, it was revealed that the actor had initially said no to the project because of a prior engagement, a production of Hamlet. Cumberbatch could not leave the project because he had given his word. Marvel had prepared for a worst case scenario and looked at other actors including Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix.

Recently, two new images from the flick were released by Empire, showing Mads Mikkelsen in his villainous look. The other image showed Rachel McAdams and Cumberbatch. ‘Doctor Strange’ will hit the screens on November 4. The cast includes Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, along with others and has been directed by Scott Derrickson.
