Matt Smith Breaks Silence On Claire Foy Pay-Disparity Controversy: I Support Her

Matt Smith, who played Prince Philip in first two seasons of Netflix's ‘The Crown’, has broken his silence on pay-disparity controversy. The actor came out to support his co-star Claire Foy. Last month, producers revealed that Smith has earned more than Foy for the first two seasons of The Crown during a conference in Israel.

Matt said,” Claire is one of my best friends, and I believe that we should be paid equally and fairly and there should be equality for all”. He added, “I support her completely, and I'm pleased that it was resolved and they made amends for it because that what's needed to happen. Going forward, I think we should all bear in mind that we need to strive to make this better and a more even playing field for everyone involved — but not just in our industry, in all industries”.

Notably, Foy played the role of Queen Elizabeth in the first two seasons of the drama. Smith joined the show after three seasons of starring as The Doctor on ‘Doctor Who’. Moreover, it is still not clear what Smith was referring to when he said Netflix and producers Sony Pictures Television Production had "made amends”.
