Michael Mann Releases ‘Commemorative Edition’ Blu-ray For Muhammad Ali Biopic ‘Ali’

Director Michael Mann has released a ‘commemorative edition’ Blu-ray for his 2001 film ‘Ali’, which was a biopic on Muhammad Ali. He chose this date because it marks the late boxer’s 75th birthday. Back in 2004, the director released a director’s cut version of the film which had eight-and-a-half minutes of extra material.

When asked why he decided to release the commemorative edition, Michael stated, “What I was interested in, particularly now, was making more tangible the forces that were raised against him, all his adversaries, and linking them in a strong way”. In the new release, the director has tried to keep the political material in-tact with a few trims here and there. The runtime is expected to be 151 minutes.

Michael has been very thoughtful and precise with the DVD releases of his films. He oversaw the director’s cut for ‘Thief’, ‘The Last of the Mohicans’ and ‘Miami Vice’. His latest project was ‘Blackhat’ which came out in 2015.
