    The animated prequel to the much appreciated film Despicable Me has passed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. Illumination Entertainment and Universal are the studios behind the film. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Minions has become the top grossing movie of 2015 till date.

    The spin-off has grossed $321.9 million domestically and $682 million internationally. Minions focuses on the incompetence of the creatures under several masters, until one day they run out of masters and decide to start a new life in Antarctica. Being a tribe with no master to serve, the minions fall into depression at which point, three minions - Kevin, Stuart and Bob - set out to find a new master.

    Minions was directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda. The script was written by Brian Lynch and produced by Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy. The film includes voices from Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, and Steve Coogan.
