If recent reports are to be trusted, film director Barry Jenkins is gearing up for his next project, which is said to be an adaptation of James Baldwin‘s acclaimed book If Beale Street Could Talk. Reportedly, Jenkins will be reuniting with Brad Pitt‘s Plan B production company. The two have earlier collaborated for The Oscar's Best Picture winner, ‘Moonlight’.

Also, this will be the first time Jenkins will be teaming up with Megan Ellison‘s Annapurna Pictures. The production of the film is expected to begin in October. It is being said that Jenkins had been anticipating making the movie for years. Reportedly, he penned the screenplay in 2013.

Since then, the director has been working with Baldwin Estate. Baldwin’s sister, Gloria Karefa-Smart was quoted as saying, “We are delighted to entrust Barry Jenkins with this adaptation. Barry is a sublimely conscious and gifted filmmaker, whose medicine for melancholy impressed us so greatly that we had to work with him”.

Jenkins had said, “James Baldwin is a man of and ahead of his time; his interrogations of the American consciousness have remained relevant to this day. To translate the power of Tish and Fonny’s love to the screen in Baldwin’s image is a dream I’ve long held dear. Working alongside the Baldwin Estate, I’m excited to finally make that dream come true”.
