Deadline has brought word that Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp has been roped in for the cinematic adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel Murder on the Orient Express. He will be working alongside Daisy Ridley, Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Pena. The movie is being directed by Kenneth Branagh, who will also be starring in the project.

The plot focuses on a detective who is investigating a murder on a luxury train that has been stuck in its tracks due to a snowstorm. This won’t be the first time a movie has been made on the novel as back in 1974, Sidney Lumet made a cinematic adaptation starring Albert Finney, Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery and Lauren Bacall. Branagh will be producing the upcoming project as well, alongside Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg, Michael Schaefer, Mark Gordon and Aditya Sood.

Agatha Christie’s grandson and chairman of Agatha Christie Ltd. James Prichard and Hilary Strong will be executive producing the film. Johnny Depp has a few projects in the pipeline including ‘Labyrinth’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ and ‘The Invisible Man’. ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ will be released on November 22 next year.
