New Details Emerge On The Death Of Stuntwoman On Deadpool 2 Set

Last week, Joi “SJ” Harris, the stunt-double for Zazie Beetz, lost her life in an accident while shooting for an action sequence for the film ‘Deadpool 2’. She was supposed to drive her bike down a ramp and stop at a designated spot which she over stepped. Her bike hit the sidewalk, launching her through a plate glass window of a building.

An investigation report by WorkSafeBC, British Columbia’s version of the U.S. government’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration stated, “The worker had been rehearsing a stunt scene that involved driving a motorcycle, Dictate 939 Hyperstrada, out of the open doors of a building, across a concrete pad and down a ramp that had been built over three stairs and coming to a stop on the stair landing”.

The report went on to say, “During the first shooting of the scene the stunt driver continued driving beyond the planned stopping spot on the stairway landing, and continued to drive down a second ramp built over the bottom stairs and across the roadway. The motorcycle struck the concrete sidewalk curb, the worker was thrown off the motorcycle and propelled through a plate glass window of a building”.

The report was shared by Deadline and the agency also stated that the accident happened on the sixth take. She had successfully performed the stunt five times before. The crew restarted the production 48 hours later after they held a moment of silence in remembrance of the 32-year-old.
