    Noah, the Biblical epic, has knocked down Divergent after sailing through a series of controversies successfully. At the domestic box-office Darren Aronofsky's Noah is the topper this weekend with a $44 million opening. On the other hand Disney's Captain America: The Winter Soldier has roared the silver screens worldwide and grossed $75.2 million overseas.

    The adaptation of the Old Testament tale took its ride on Saturday and surpassed all expectations. Keeping the controversies in their mind, distributor Paramount added a statement at the beginning of the film saying that it was a dramatic interpretation. Shailene Woodley and Theo James starrer Divergent, which was shadowed by Noah’s success, finished at the second spot with $27.7 million. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s action flick Sabotage tanked and finished at the seventh place with $5.3 million. Paramount's head of distribution Don Harris said about Noah’s success, “This movie was always meant to be provocative, and it was, but this really was a spectacular piece of filmmaking and that's what really made it work.” Captain America: The Winter Soldier ruled the international market at No. 1 spot and the Korean market has been the topmost with $10.9 million. The U.K. market gained $10.7 million and the other strong markets included Mexico ($8.7 million), France ($6.4 million), Italy ($3.9 million) and Germany ($3.8 million).
