Olivia Colman Replaces Claire Foy To Play Queen Elizabeth In 'The Crown'

Latest news reveals that Olivia Colman is all set to replace the Crown star Claire Foy in the role of Queen Elizabeth for seasons 3 and 4 of the Netflix drama from Peter Morgan. The actress will take over the lead character as Claire was roped in only for two seasons. It has also been heard from Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos that there will be six seasons of the Netflix drama.

The story of the drama will cover the entire life of Queen Elizabeth from the age of 29 to, presumably, the current day. The executive said, “The idea is to do this over six decades, in six seasons presumably, and make the whole show [run] over eight to 10 years”. She further revealed that she is desperate to watch it and whoever plays that part will be extraordinary. She said, “I will never watch it with any sense of bitterness or regret. I will feel what I will feel now, which is so happy and lucky for the experience”.

On the work front, Colman will be seen next on the big screen in Murder on the Orient Express. Her earlier television projects include Broadchurch, Fleabag and The Night Manager, for which she won a Golden Globe Award earlier this year. The Crown’s second season is set to debut on Dec. 8. The series will cast newcomers like Matthew Goode as Lord Snowdon and Michael C. Hall as John F. Kennedy.
