    Pacific Rim Sequel Finds Its Female Lead In Cailee Spaeny

    Variety has reported that the upcoming sequel to the hit 2013 action flick ‘Pacific Rim’ has roped in singer-actress Cailee Spaeny as the female lead. She will be sharing screen space with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ actor John Boyega, who plays the male lead. The movie is being helmed by Steven S. DeKnight while the original was directed by Guillermo del Toro.

    Cailee is quite new to the industry and was previously seen in a crime thriller short film titled ‘Counting to 1000’. She also has a single called "Fallin" on iTunes. John will play the son of Stacker Pentecost’s, played by Idris Elba in the 2013 film. Scott Eastwood will also be present in the film but details about his character have not been revealed as of yet.

    Pacific Rim did quite well at the worldwide box office, bringing in over $411 million. It starred Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Max Martini and Robert Kazinsky. The sequel has been titled ‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom’ and is planned for a 2018 release.
