James Mangold is directing the project which is an adaptation of the John D. MacDonald mystery-adventure books about Travis McGee, a bachelor living on a house boat who acts as a "salvage consultant". Bale plays McGee in the film which will see him on the trail of stolen sapphires which lead to a sadistic torturer. Dinklage will play a mathematician who made a fortune thanks to an app and ends up as McGee’s sidekick. Peltz will play a woman who acts older than she is, knows more about the sapphires than she lets on, hires McGee to find them and ends up on the wrong side of the torturer. Deep Blue Goodbye is scheduled to begin shooting in May.
