Ray Dolby who pioneered surround sound passes away

Ray Dolby, the man who invented surround sound has died yesterday at the age of 80. He was an engineer of sound, who pioneered in techniques of noise reduction and surround sound in audio recordings. Ray had completely changed the way people listen to music. His contribution in taking the listeners to a complete different world via digital sound effects has made his name synonymous with home and cinema sound systems.

The pioneer was suffering from Alzheimer's disease in recent years and had been diagnosed with Leukemia in the month of July. Ray was a genius in true sense. The company (Dolby Laboratories), founded by Ray had won 19 Academy and 13 Emmy Awards in the field of surround sound and noise reduction. And, Dolby was also inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in the United States and the Royal Academy of Engineers in the UK.

Ray has left many celebrities with teary eyes. Tom Dolby, a filmmaker and novelist has said, “Though he was an engineer at heart, my father's achievements in technology grew out of a love of music and the arts. He brought his appreciation of the artistic process to all of his work in film and audio recording.” We wish; may his soul rest in peace, a bow from us to the pioneer on his achievements in his genre.
