Sean Harris may play the baddie in MI: 5

Sean Harris may play the baddie in MI: 5

The "Mission: Impossible" franchise has had a pretty mixed bag of villains so far. While Jon Voight was mildly interesting in the first film, Dougray Scott was pretty weak in the second.  Though Philip Seymour Hoffman tried his best in the third, Michael Nyqvist was completely useless in the otherwise excellent fourth. The shooting of the fifth installment of the Tom Cruise starrer has been on for a few weeks under the direction of Christopher McQuarrie. Though he hasn’t announced the villain yet, but if sources are to be given an ear, the team has finally found one.

According to sources, Sean Harris has been approached to take on the Mission: Impossible 5 villain role. Harris is known to many as the panicky geologist ‘Field’ in Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’. The actor has been acting for twenty years now and has amassed a noteworthy fan following across the world. His ability has been seen on the silver screen with his characters in the Red Riding movie trilogy, along with more recent roles on the TV show The Borgias and supernatural horror/crime procedural Deliver Us From Evil (which released back in July). Sean’s present commitment like the Jennifer Lawrence/Bradley Cooper period drama ‘Serena’ and a version of Macbeth that stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard (featuring Harris as Macduff) are either finished or currently in post-production, therefore any scheduling problem preventing him to sign the deal seems unlikely.

The first four Mission Impossible films were each directed by a different filmmaker and had their own unique flavor, as a result the fifth installment won’t break away from tradition either. Duties this time around are being handled by Oscar-winner Christopher McQuarrie, who previously directed Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher and also co-wrote a pair of his films. The first being World War 2 drama ‘Valkyrie’ while the other was this year’s alien invasion thriller ‘Edge Of Tomorrow.’ Sean Harris is a pretty interesting choice for the "Mission Impossible" franchise, and may heat things up for the movie. If he officially gets on board, he’ll be facing off against actors like Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson and Alec Baldwin. The film is set to open on December 25, 2015.
