Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is known to have helmed movies such as Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, Pacific Rim and Crimson Peak. His latest directorial ‘Shape of Water’ has received several awards in the recent past. Moreover, the movie has received the maximum number of Academy Awards.

According to a story published on timesofindia.indiatimes.com, Guillermo has been accused of plagiarism by David Zindel, who is the son of late Pulitzer-winning playwright Paul Zindel. David has stated that the storyline of ‘Shape of Water’, which depicts a silent woman’s fixation with a sea creature, has been directly taken from his father’s play Let Me Hear You Whisper. The play Let Me Hear You Whisper revolves around a female janitor employed in a science laboratory getting attached to a caged dolphin and attempting to free the dolphin.

The director Toro and writer Vanessa Taylor of ‘Shape of Water’ are yet to speak about the accusations. Regarding the scenario, Zindel said, “We are shocked that a major studio could make a film so obviously derived from my late father's work without anyone recognising it and coming to us for the rights”.
