Spice Girls enthrall audiences at Olympic Closing Ceremony

Just like the spectacular Opening Ceremony, the last nights Olympic Closing Ceremony was also made memorable by the performances of music bands -- The Who, Spice Girls, Muse, One Direction and Brian May. During the event, the Olympic stadium was transformed into a microcosm of London, complete with Tower Bridge, Big Ben, St. Paul's and the London Eye. The Spice Girls, who reunited for the big day, arrived on the top of moving black London taxis and were greeted with an almost hysterical gratitude. The Spice Girls performed a medley of their 1996 break-out hit Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life. Then Liam Gallagher and his group Beady Eye performed their old band Oasis' hit Wonderwall before former Monty Python star Eric Idle kicked off an audience sing-along with his Life of Brian anthem -- Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. The athletes, who flooded into the stadium from all sides, partied to a 'Symphony of British Music', showcasing an hour of great British hits. Sebastian Coe, the chairman of the London Games organising committee, lastly thanked the athletes, volunteers and huge crowds for making the sporting event such a success. "Those of us who came to watch witnessed moments of heroism and heartbreak that will live long in the memory. The spirit of these Olympics will inspire a generation," Coe said.
