    Star Trek Into Darkness moves to the top without a speedy cash collection

    J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness managed to snatch the topmost position from Iron Man 3 but could not earn big at a fast-paced way. On the fourth day from its release it was $84 million at the box-office collections, which means lesser than Paramount’s expectations.

    Its opening was the year’s third-best till now but its three-day total of $70.5 million was less than the $75 million which was the debut-earning of Star Trek four years ago. This weekend the film got released in 33 international markets and it has taken in more than $80 million from overseas and $164.5 million worldwide. Star Trek Into Darkness was followed by Iron Man 3 which earned $35.2 million in its third week.

    It's now grossed $337.1 million in the domestic market, $736.2 million overseas and has a global total of $1.07 billion, the ninth-best ever numbers in Hollywood. The third spot was taken by The Great Gatsby with $23.4 million collections and it has taken in just over $90 million since its debut. Now the wait begins for the next week releases to heat up the box-office competition, Universal's Fast & Furious 6, Warner Bros.' The Hangover Part III and Fox's animated feature film Epic.
