Star Trek Into Darkness opens strong at international box-office

So far it has been a dancing time for the latest installment Star Trek Into Darkness by Paramount as it has grossed $31.7 million from seven international markets. It means it has been 70 percent more successful than J.J. Abrams' 2009 film, thanks to the 3D version.

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto have returned to their roles of James T. Kirk and Spock in Star Trek Into Darkness. The highest grossing countries of the Star Trek franchise, U.K., Australia and Germany, have also recorded 56 percent more in their income from the latest one. Even the movie went smoothly with audiences from Mexico, New Zealand and German-speaking Switzerland, where the franchise has never been so popular.

While it was $13.3 million from U.K. placing the country in the topmost position, Germany saw $7.6 million pouring in and Australia gained $5.5 million. Special thanks should be given to the extensive marketing strategy of Paramount as producer Byran Burk even shared 20 minutes footage of the film with media and distributors earlier this year. The international outcome is still going strong, including the Russian market and the IMAX theatres have been the highest contributors with $2.7 million over the weekend. China will see the movie’s release on May 16.
