    Hitting the screen in the U.S., U.K., Germany and others on December 18, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken the record for biggest opening, grossing $238 million in the U.S. The record was previously held by Jurassic World with its $208.8 million. The Force Awakens pooled in a whooping $517 million across the globe and is yet to be released in India.

    The animated flick Alvin and the Chipmunks The Road Chip also released alongside The Force Awakens and was able to pool in $14.4 million. The movie claimed the second spot on the weekend box office top 5 list. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler starrer Sisters came in at a close third with its $13.4 million. The Jason Moore directorial was developed over a budget of $30 million and has raked in $15 million worldwide.

    With the worldwide earning reaching $254 million, Mockingjay Part 2 which saw a slow opening has taken the fourth spot. The Jennifer Lawrence starrer, running on its fifth weekend has grossed $5.6 million. The rocky spinoff Creed has pooled in $5 million running on its fourth weekend. The movie stars Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone.
