Star Wars: Episode VIII Shooting in Ireland

Star Wars: Episode VIII Shooting in Ireland

Contrary to previous reports that the team of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be shooting some scenes in Ireland, the team actually plan on shooting sequences for the next instalment, Star Wars Episode VIII. Lucasfilm told EW that the team wanted to keep the news on the down low and thus used Star Wars as the name, not giving out any more information.

According to Irish TV news RTÉ, the correct news was confirmed by Heather Humphries, Ireland’s arts minister. The Lucasfilm team has agreed to respect and honour the sanctity of the archaeological sites and wildlife habitats. They will strictly follow the guidelines that have been established to maintain the sites.

The team is in Skellig Michael which has lush vegetation wherever the land is flat. Also present there are the ruins of a small monastery which might be why the team chose the spot. No further details about the film have been released, except that it will be directed by Rian Johnson.
