    The seventh instalment in the epic Star Wars franchise Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been breaking records ever since its release on December 18 in the U.S. The J.J. Abrams directorial has pooled in $49.3 million on Christmas day, breaking Sherlock Holmes’ record of $24.6 million. The movie has now become the fastest to pool in $400 million mark domestically.

    If this pace continues, the movie will set another record of reaching the $500 million mark the quickest. The record was previously held by Jurassic World with its 17 days time span. Star Wars: The Force Awakens has now grossed $890.3 million worldwide, of which $449.9 million has been from the overseas market.

    The cast for the film includes Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill and Oscar Isaac. The Force Awakens is based 30 years after the events of Episode 6: Return of the Jedi. The movie is predicted to cross the $1 billion mark this weekend.
