The 1979 Fox film, The Rose, which was nominated for the Oscars, will be back in an adaptation. It has been heard that the Jackal Group, comprising of Michael Gorfaine and Sam Schwartz is all set to produce the Broadway stage musical adaptation. The songs will be composed by Grammy-winning composer and record producer Glen Ballard.

The film, which starred Bette Midler, revolves around a troubled rock star struggling to deal with the pressures of fame and her ruthless business manager in the 1960s. Glen Ballard made his Broadway debut with the short-lived 2012 musical Ghost and will be scoring music for the film. The story is based on the life of Janis Joplin.

Further, producer Gail Berman said, “The story lends itself perfectly to a live musical production: it’s a roller-coaster journey through the life of a volatile star, a celebration of music, and a visual homage to the dazzling culture of rock and roll. We are so excited to bring a modern-day take on this project to the stage, and beyond thrilled to have Glen, a true musical vanguard at the helm”.
