    Thor: The Dark World aims to rake in $95 million in 3 days at domestic box-office

    Last weekend Disney-Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World opened as the fourth highest grossing film overseas with $111 million. Now the film is expected to gross $95 million in three days at the domestic box-office as it opens this weekend.

    Through Wednesday the Thor sequel has garnered $142 million internationally and it’s aiming to cross its predecessor’s $65 million opening, which opened in May 2011. The other expanding box-office contenders of this weekend are Universal’s About Time, which gets released in 1,200 locations, and Fox Searchlight’s 12 Years a Slave, as it gets released in 1,144 locations.

    Thor: The Dark World is aiming to give a groundbreaking performance at the domestic box-office, soon to be followed by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. After Marvel was acquired by Disney, Thor: The Dark World, will be the first joint release this fall. Earlier, Paramount shared revenues for The Avengers and Iron Man 3. In the international forum, Thor: The Dark World has been released in 36 territories which means 70 percent of the global market. Major markets like India and China will follow others from this Friday only.
