Three Avatar Sequels In Development

The 2009 film Avatar directed by James Cameron was a huge success, earning more than $2 billion worldwide. The movie starred Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana in the leading roles. Now James Cameron has stated that there will be trio of Avatar sequels. Avatar 2 might hit theatres in 2017.

James said, “I’m in the process of doing another pass through all three scripts right now. Just refining. That’s in parallel with the design process. The design process is very mature at this point. We’ve been designing for about a year and a half. All the characters, settings and creatures are all pretty much [set]”.

Sam, Zoe, Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver will be returning for the sequel. James, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are currently working on writing the sequels. Talking about Avatar 2, the director said, “[Y]ou have to challenge yourself. Obviously, expectations are going to be very high on these films, especially on ‘Avatar 2,’ to make sure it wasn’t just some big fluke the first time. So we’ve got to deliver. I’ve created a nice rod for my own back, so they say”.
