For quite some time, the progress towards the sixth Mission Impossible film was held up because of a salary issue between Paramount Pictures, Skydance Media and franchise actor Tom Cruise. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has stated that the dispute has been resolved and the project is back on track. Mission Impossible fans will surely be relieved by this news.

The sixth installment will begin production in spring of 2017 with Christopher McQuarrie returning to the director’s chair. He will be writing the project as well. Christopher joined the franchise with the fifth part, ‘Rogue Nation’, in 2015. He will be the only director to be attached to more than one Mission Impossible film.

The franchise began back in 1996 with Brian De Palma as director. The movie was a huge success at the box office. The second part was helmed by John Woo and came out in 2000. J.J. Abrams then stepped up as the director of the third part which was released in 2006. ‘Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol’ was directed by Brad Bird and hit the screens in 2011.

The franchise has brought in more than $930 million with Tom Cruise playing agent Ethan Hunt since the start.
