Mark Wahlberg stated last year that he was quite certain he would return for the next instalment in the Transformers franchise. Now according to CinePop, the actor has confirmed his return for Transformers 5. Transformers: Age of Extinction was a huge success at the box office grossing $1.1 billion worldwide.

Mark played the role of Cade Yeager, the person who stumbles upon the malfunctioning truck that happened to be Optimus Prime. He is then tasked with protecting his daughter Tessa (Nicola Peltz) and working alongside the autobots to protect the fate of humanity. Age of Extinction was directed by Michael Bay.

Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Ken Nolan are expected to write the script for Transformers 5. It has not been confirmed if Michael Bay will return as director as of yet. The franchise has pooled in over $3.7 billion since the first movie back in 2007. The first three Transformers flicks had Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox in the lead roles.
