Here Are The Best Twitter Reactions To Trailer Of Tom Hardy's Spider-Man Spinoff, Venom!

The first trailer for Venom, the Spider-Man spinoff starring Tom Hardy, was released online on Thursday, and it’s a darker, more subdued psychological thriller than a traditional Marvel movie. Hardy plays Eddie Brock, a reporter for the Daily Planet, who is infected by an alien symbiote that brings out his dark side.

Because of the Oscar pedigree of stars Hardy and Michelle Williams, Venom isn’t at all like what you’d expect. The movie seems to take a more cerebral approach to a classic Marvel antihero. It is said that the film will be a part of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man universe - it has also been rumoured that Holland might make a cameo in the film. Both Venom and Eddie Brock previously appeared in Spider-Man 3.

But this is very much a teaser. There aren’t too many visual effects shots (presumably because they haven’t been completed yet, the movie is due in October ), and most of the focus is on Brock, who through a heavily accented voiceover lays his cards out.

We see glimpses of his character before the Jekyll and Hyde-esque transformation, and we see hints of what appears to be another intense Tom Hardy performance.

Venom is directed by Ruben Fleischer, who has previously made two comedies (Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less) and one gangster drama (Gangster Squad). It remains to be seen if he can successfully translate the pages of Marvel comics to the big screen.
