War Room Takes The Lead At The Box Office
Over the weekend, War Room secured first position at the domestic box office with $9.3 million. The movie is directed by Alex Kendrick and is a drama involving a family that seeks out an older wiser woman to fix their problems. Straight Outta Compton came in second with $8.9 million on its fourth weekend.
War Room was developed in a budget of $3.5 million. Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst with Rentrak stated, “It’s clearly a movie that’s resonating with underserved audiences that are usually left out of the conversation — it was really perfect timing by Sony”. The third position was claimed by A Walk in the Woods with its $8.1 million.
The last two spots on the top five list were grabbed by Mission Impossible and The Transporter Refueled. The fifth instalment in the Mission Impossible series, Rogue Nation, grossed $7.2 million followed by $7.1 million for The Transporter. Rogue Nation has grossed $182.5 million overall.
