Fox is teaming up with Marvel to produce a new, untitled series based on the world of X-Men, the network announced today. Fox's new show will be written by Matt Nix, the creator of Burn Notice, and will have X-Men: Apocalypse's Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg as executive producers. Joseph Loeb, one of Marvel's top executives, will also be involved with the show.

"The untitled series will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive," explained Variety.

“Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network — and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe,” said the network's President of Entertainment, David Madden. “There’s comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw. With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series.”

The new series at Fox, however, will follow two parents as they're forced by a hostile government to flee their home after it's discovered their children are mutants. The family teams up with a group of other mutants, all living on the outskirts of society, and fight to survive.

“Marvel Television is thrilled to be co-producing with 20th Century Fox Television on our first project," said Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television. "Matt’s a huge fan of X-Men and his take on X-Men, with its rich characters and high-stakes adventure, is exactly the show we want on Fox. It’s a great team of creative producers who will be making something entirely unique,” he added.

The announcement follows Fox's sister network, FX, and its deal with Marvel to create a show also based on the X-Men universe, called Legion. That will focus on Professor Xavier's son and his rise to lead the New Mutants.
