Aiyaary Stalled? Defence Ministry Demands Changes To Neeraj Pandey's Film
Less than a week from its release, Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary has run into fresh trouble with the defence ministry asking for multiple changes in the film after watching it. The Revising Committee of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting held a special screening of the film for the officials from defence ministry on Saturday. The officials then suggested certain changes in the film; the exact nature of these changes have not been disclosed.
Both Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee play army officers in the espionage thriller. Earlier, Aiyaary failed to receive clearance from the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and was referred to the revising committee.
A source told Hindustan Times, “The defence ministry officials watched Aiyaary Saturday afternoon. Multiple scenes have been a point of debate and the film team has been asked to modify the objectionable parts. The body, however, is tight-lipped about the content of these scenes.”
With a release date locked for February 9, team Aiyaary finds is already late for their overseas delivery. The film will now have to be edited in time for its release. The film’s release has been postponed once to avoid clash with Padmaavat on the Republic Day weekend. If the film now releases on its scheduled time, it will clash with Akshay Kumar -starrer PadMan at the box-office.
Asked if these things will affect the way films are made and released, Sidharth told IANS, “Our producers are tackling it. It’s in the process. Each film has its own reasons. We have seen what happened with that film (Padmaavat).”
Aiyaary is the story of two strong-minded army officers having completely different views, yet right in their own ways. The film portrays Sidharth as an army officer sharing a mentor-protege bond with Manoj. Aiyaary also stars Rakul Preet Singh , Pooja Chopra in pivotal roles.
