Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar is a prolific singer who is quite sought-after in Sandalwood circles. It seems that Puneeth is taking a lot of interest in new challenges also. Puneeth is believed to be the perfect choice when filmmakers have a song of special value that would sound best in his vocals. And so did the team of director SD Arvinda’s Mataash.

Arvinda has given compositions for his previous film, Last Bus and is now returning as a composer for Mataash as well. The film is set in Vijayapura and the song, titled Chajji Roti, is an introduction to the protagonists — four young men, who are clueless about what to do in life but want to make money and enjoy themselves. “We had recorded the track for the purpose of the shoot but were looking for another voice for the final version. I have always found Puneeth’s voice intriguing and wanted to work with him. We approached him with two song options, including the title track, and to our surprise, he chose Chajji Roti,” says Arvinda.

Interestingly, the lyrics of the song have been written keeping in mind the local dialect of Vijayapura, peppered with Lambani words as well. Notably, Puneeth has never sung a song in a North Karnataka dialect, but he was quite excited about trying his hand at it, as said by the composer.

Chajji Roti had a lot of tongue twisters and it is proved to be a challenging job for the singer.
