Raksha Somashekhar: I Did Not Want To Debut With A Film In Which I Only Had To Look Pretty

Raksha Somashekhar has started her tryst with showbiz as a child model for various ad campaigns over the years. Her goal was to get into the cinema, yet there wasn’t any particular training that she underwent, barring, of course, Bharatanatyam lessons for many years. And the actress now feels that she does not debut with a film in which she only had to look pretty.

Raksha said, “One thing that I was clear about was that I was not looking for a blockbuster launch in a big commercial flick in which I had to only look pretty. I did not want to play it safe. That is when I met Vani Raju, a family friend who is also the producer of May 1st. She spoke to me about the film, after which I met the team, including director Nagendra Urs and actor J Karthik, who has written the script. I really liked the story, even though it has elements of horror, as it fit into my idea of starting off as a performer”.

Soon the actress realised that working on a film is much different from striking poses for a still camera for ad campaigns. Sharing her experience, she said, “I was the only one on the team who was a newbie and I was quite nervous initially. But, the team was very supportive and helped me get a hang of it all. For instance, Nagendra sir would never lose his cool if I need to give multiple takes. In fact, if he didn’t get the scene right, he would not insist that we do it then and there again and would ask me to take a breather and maybe come back the next day. Every day on the set was a learning experience and now that I have worked on a couple of other films, I can safely say that there is a vast difference between when I started off and now. I have grown as an actor and I credit much of it to the team of May 1st”.
