Protest Against Piracy: Film Exhibitors To Shut All Theatres On July 9

First Premam and then Papanasam; one after the other the South Indian films are getting leaked online. The film exhibitors in Kerala are quite worried as no strict action has been taken to curb the issue. Film exhibitor's federation led by Liberty Basheer, has now decided to protest against the issue by shutting down all the theatres of the state on July 9.

The president of Exhibitor's Federation, Basheer explains how piracy has affected the collections of movies. He said, “The collection has come down to 25% all of a sudden. You get a repeat crowd only for a handful of films. And Premam was one such movie, which college students were watching five to six
times. Why should they come to theatres now that the film is available in all their mobile phones?”.

The investigation agency has interrogated Trivandrum’s censor board. Also, many amongst those who were selling the pirated copies of these films have been arrested. In this concern, Basheer says, “We all know very well that they have the technology to catch the real culprits. I suspect there is some kind of pressure on the authorities, which is slowing down the investigation”. He further says, “The would-be pirates will lose all fear when they see the kind of investigation happening now. We will be proceeding with the theatre strike and if there is resolution still, we are ready to go on an indefinite strike”.
